CCTV is only useful if it records the right thing, clearly, at the moment it matters, and if someone can find and export that footage afterwards. Many systems fail on at least one of those points: cameras aimed at the wrong spot, faces unreadable at night, drives that stopped recording months ago. Why camera design matters more than camera count
Different jobs need different cameras. Watching a car park for movement is not the same as identifying a person at a door or reading a number plate at a gate. The distance, the lens, the lighting at night and the angle all decide whether footage is useful as evidence or merely shows that something happened.
Storage matters too. Recording resolution, frame rate and the number of cameras determine how many days of footage the recorder holds. If an incident is only noticed a week later, a system that keeps three days is no help.
Workplace cameras also carry legal obligations. Under the NSW Workplace Surveillance Act 2005, employees must generally be given written notice at least 14 days before surveillance begins, cameras must be visible and signs must be displayed at entrances. What you receive
You receive a working system with a camera schedule showing each camera’s location and view, recorder settings and retention period documented, remote viewing set up on agreed devices, and guidance on signage for workplace surveillance. Where footage may be needed by police or insurers, we make sure your staff know how to export it in a usable format.
Once the system is running, periodic health checks confirm cameras are still aimed correctly, lenses are clean, recording is working and the recorder’s drives are healthy. Those checks can be scheduled under a maintenance contract.
Where it fits with our other trades
IP cameras run on network cabling and need power, so our data cabling and electrical teams install that infrastructure as part of the same job. CCTV also works best alongside other security layers: an alarm system that detects intrusion and access control that records who came through which door.
