Why it pays to get home electrical work right

Much of Western Sydney’s housing stock was built decades ago, when homes had far fewer appliances. Old wiring, overloaded circuits and switchboards without RCD protection are common, and they are the root cause of many of the faults we are called to. Fixing the symptom without checking the cause usually means another callout.

Smoke alarms are a legal requirement in every NSW home, and interconnected, hard-wired alarms give much earlier warning than a single battery unit in a hallway, because every alarm sounds when one detects smoke.

Renovations are the other moment to think ahead. Opening up walls and ceilings for a kitchen or bathroom is the cheapest time to replace old cabling, add circuits and put in the data and power points you will want later. What you receive

For installation work you receive a certificate of compliance, which is worth keeping for insurance and for when you sell. For fault finding we tell you what caused the problem, what we fixed and anything else we noticed that should be looked at, without pressure to do it all at once.

If your home is older, a general safety check of the switchboard, RCDs and smoke alarms is a sensible first step. It gives you a clear list of priorities and helps you budget for work over time rather than all at once.
